New to Mostly Mommies

We've added many of the game sites you recommended over the last 6 weeks. Thank you for all your emails! We're happy to hear you think so highly of our site and we definitely hear that you want more game reviews! They get tested by our own kids daily but feel free to submit your child's favorite online game with a short review and we'll add that, too. The more submissions we receive, the more comprehensive the list. Recently added Infant games seem to be all the rage - now I have a baby fighting for computer time!

This month, we are adding a new resource for you Mommies hard at work on other projects but still wanting a unique and creative keepsake or memory book. Check in to our site throughout the month and you'll soon see Recollections featured there. Personal stories based on interviews by phone or email, written for you by a well-known author, printed, bound and delivered to you.

We're considering offering a Mommy Webmaster section online, but we need to hear from more people - would you find Web Development resources and Search Engine Optimization information useful? For instance, we've recently started turning down link exchange requests and requesting that the link to our site be removed from specific pages. Why would we do that when some search engines use links to find and rank sites? Well, a recent change to Google's indexing process, and our web designers will back us up here, is that any links to your site from a page containing MORE THAN 50 LINKS to other sites will result in a LOWER ranking for your site. Links pages with excessive linkage may be hurting your site! You need to be certain that sites that link to you do so properly and in a relevant manner. Want to know who links to you now? Get in touch with us and let us know you want a Mommy Webmasters' password protected area on the site. We'll also have free, beautiful desktop wallpapers. Spectacular floral photography by a local photographer for use on your desktop or your website.

Our Site of the Season is:

Summer is in full swing but ---

Let's be realistic. We can't keep them indoors all day and they need protection from the sun. Visit Zhibou (www.zhibou.ca) to check out this unique swimsuit, kid-tested in Australia. It's comfortable for active kids as well as those fussy "I don't wanna wear it" kids and it comes in a wide range sizes.
Capri-length pants with a long sleeve top for maximum sun protection.
Mention that you found Zhibou through mostlymommies.com,
and receive $10 off your swimsuit purchase!

There has never been a better time to protect your child from the sun in a fashionable and functional way - great colour selection, too!

Keeping your child sun safe can help prevent skin cancer later in life - it may not appear to be harming them now and that tan is pretty but the damage is long-lasting and invisible.

Easy Ice Cream substitute

Mash 1 medium ripe banana
Divide between two freezer safe, plastic containers
Freeze over night or for several hours

Prior to serving, let stand for 5 minutes and then beat the thawing banana with a fork until it becomes light-coloured and creamy in consistency.

Spice up those Apple Slices

Mix together sugar and a little cinnamon - dip those apple segments and put them on the plate! They'll love the change and they'll be back for more before you know it.

The first place prize will be a unique piece of jewelry by local designer, Erin Miller. This is an ideal opportunity to have your picture featured on our site and win a piece of wearble art that you're sure to treasure forever.

Beach Review - Hopkins Landing Beach

Well, summer is in full swing, and weather has been glorious (if a little dry) on our beautiful Sunshine Coast, BC. As parents we are always on the lookout for a safe, fun, and accessible 'getaway' that offers our children hours of entertainment yet is close enough for us to be home in time to prepare dinner and wind down. One such place is Hopkins Landing Beach. So close to Gibsons, yet a world apart, Hopkins Beach is located off Marine Drive directly across from the old oil tank storage facility. (You know, that crazy little turn down towards the water, right before the ferry?) Just turn down Hopkins Road and you will see the dock and the flurry of activity surrounding it. It offers a sandy refuge, a long pier and an assortment of floating docks to swim to and jump off. It's never too crowded for another family so we'll see you there!

Ferry News - The Sunshine Coast Langdale - Horseshoe Bay Route

Finally, we are graced with a reservation system just like the big routes! Although, I called to reserve a trip this weekend (Aug 1-3) and, wouldn't you know it, the whole weekend's worth of reservation slots are full! Still, a big hurray for the reservation system up and running. You can reserve online using the following link: BC Ferries Reservations or type in: https://welcome.bcferries.com/rbi/index.asp?RT=V-SC if you've received this in a text only email.

Based in part on our experience with the current photo contest, we've decide to remove the limitations on our site's sellers. Initially, we were narrowed in on the Sunshine Coast, and we still love it here, but our visitors and members are Mommies around the world who value early childhood development and who, in many cases, have an artistic outlet for themselves. We want to help you bring your craft to the world. Currently our visitors are looking for handmade children's clothing more than anything else but, because of the (coming soon) line of handmade children's jewelry and the traffic that is already generating, we know that once we have additional items for sale, we'll be able to add to our visibility - and yours! If you could benefit from a low cost place to market your craft and an online presence you can be proud of, contact us right away for complete information. Our site is rapidly gaining in popularity so don't miss this limited opportunity to join us! Tell a friend, too!
